This sacred ground holds historical and spiritual significance, honoring the memory of the ancestors and members of nearby churches who were once part of the parish.

A Shared Heritage

  • In the past, the cemetery served not only the parishioners of Lourdes Forane Church but also members of nearby Syro-Malabar churches, who were formerly attached to the parish.

  • Today, the cemetery is shared between Lourdes Forane Church and the parishioners of St. Antony’s Church, Viswasapuram, continuing its role as a sacred place of burial and remembrance.

  • Located approximately 1 kilometer from the church, the cemetery provides a peaceful and solemn environment for prayer and reflection.

Well-Laid and Spiritually Enriching Space

  • The cemetery is well-organized with neatly arranged burial sites, ensuring a respectful and dignified space for the departed souls.

  • A Kapela (Chapel) stands within the cemetery, offering a place for prayers, funeral services, and memorial gatherings.

  • A secured ‘Asthikuzhi’ (Ossuary) is available for the proper preservation of the remains of the deceased, following the traditions of the church.

A Place of Reflection and Devotion

  • A newly erected, beautiful statue of Pietà enhances the spiritual atmosphere of the cemetery, symbolizing Mary’s sorrow and love as she holds the body of Jesus Christ.

  • Parishioners often visit to pray for their loved ones, light candles, and seek solace in their faith, particularly on All Souls' Day and special remembrance occasions.

The cemetery of Lourdes Forane Church continues to be a sacred ground of faith, history, and eternal rest, reminding parishioners of the Christian belief in resurrection and everlasting life.
